The idea of some recipes “sprout” spontaneously, it arrives without asking the permission. I bought the donuts mold before I knew what I would use it with. It’s been a while since I wanted to prepare small donuts more for their shape rather than their taste. It’s funny because I thought more about which mold I should have bought (silicone or metal ? ?) than the recipe itself. I wanted to have a mold with donut shapes, that’s it. Thank God, as soon as I had it in my hands I remembered the recipe that I had seen on Serena’s blog, so that the games were over! The original recipe is for a tart made with lemon, I’ve replaced grapefruit with lemon and, of course, I’ve slightly adjusted the quantities to fit the donuts. I’ll bring this recipe over to Angi’s party, where Sue and Prudy will help her, making the party funnier.
Ingredients:
240 gr. of flour • 170 gr. of softened butter • 3 eggs • zest and juice of half grapefruit 1 teaspoon of yeast • 180 gr. of sugar
- Preheat oven to 170°, grease a donut mold and set aside;
- Sift the flour with the yeast, set aside;
- In a big bowl cream the butter with the sugar until you obtain a white and fluffy cream;
- Add eggs one at a time and then add the zest and the juice of the half grapefruit;
- Add the flour mixture;
- Pour the mixture with a spoon (or a piping bag to be precise);
- Bake about 15 minutes, let cool down, unmold and sprinkle with icing sugar.
- Préchauffez le four à 170°, beurrez le moule à gimblettes et réservez;
- Tamisez la farine avec la levure, réservez;
- Crémez le beurre avec le sucre jusqu’à obtenir une crème blanche et mousseuse;
- Ajoutez les œufs un à la fois, puis ajoutez le zeste et le jus du pamplemousse;
- Incorporez le mélange de farine;
- Versez le mélange avec une cuillère (ou une douille pour être plus précise);
- Preriscaldate il forno a 170° e imburrate bene lo stampo per le ciambelline, mettete da parte;
- Setacciate la farina con il lievito, riservate;
- Montate il burro a crema con lo zucchero, fino ad ottenere una crema bianca e soffice;
- Aggiungete le uova una alla volta, poi aggiungete la scorza e il succo di pompelmo;
- Aggiungete la miscela di farina;
- Versate il composto con un cucchiaio (o una sac à poche per essere più precisi);
You have beautiful looking donuts here!! And as always, you have amazing photos! have a lovely week! ❤
Thanks so much Jhuls! Glad you like it!
Your donuts look wonderful and scrumptious. Beautiful pictures too 🙂
Thanks a lot Linda!

L’air trop miam? : )
Je dirais même plus, miam miam !
They look and sound just delicious !!
Thanks a lot, they were!
The first picture is seriously beautiful and the donuts look amazing. Bookmarking this. Thank you!
Thanks a lot Francesca for your lovely comment!
Gorgeous donuts! you are so funny you sound like an engineer buying your mold before you know what recipe you will make. However, I did the same thing one time and bought a donut mould and now my kids keep bugging me to make donuts so I think I will start with your refreshingly grapefruit light summer donuts.
I’m glad to hear that there’s someone who buys moles before… From a certain point of view, it’s a kind of sickness, isn’t it? In case you’ll give a try, please let me know what your kids will think about these donuts… I’m very curious about it!
I am so happy this recipe sprouted!!!
Hai ragione, a me poi i frutti asprigni piacciono tanto.
Oh, they look awesome! I think it’s time to buy a doughnut pan! 🙂 Love grapefruit, it just tastes so absolutely fresh! 🙂
Thanks a lot Tina! That donuts pan is has been one of the best purchase I made in the last months…
Welcome welcome welcome Margherita!! You brought donuts!! And it was national donut day on Friday!! I’m so happy to see you, and the perfect treat that you brought to our table! Pink grapefruit is one of my absolute favorites, and I have never seen it used in donuts before. I’m so excited about this, I cannot wait to give them a try, I’m certain that the hint of grapefruit will have me going back for more! I love this… Thank you so much for sharing.. Have a lovely day! ❤
National donut day on Friday??? Really??? I didn’t know! I’m so happy you like what I brought to this FF, your lovely comment means a lot to me! Thanks a lot Prudy!
Margherita, beautiful as usual. I really like the uniformity of the donut made by baking as opposed to the funny ones I made deep frying. I’m so glad you made it to the party and brought these. We have some beautiful grapefruits right now at the farmers market and I always love the flavor!
Thanks a lot Sue! I’m not good at all at deep fry, so bake my donuts is has been the best solution. Especially because the original recipe with lemon is made for a cake. I hope you can give this recipe a try… the grapefruits from farmers deserve to be used!
I think I need to buy a donut mold too. What did you choose…silicone or metal? I love your opening photograph. The colors, the jar of milk and those luscious donuts are so beautiful! I better keep you recipe handy so I know what to make first with the donut mold.
I chose metal. I know that silicon is easier to use, but the metal has convinced me more, and it works very well so far! Thanks a lot for this lovely comment, I do appreciate it!
I think I would choose metal too. I own two silicone spatula’s and I’m not sure how I feel about them. They are nice to use for mixing but not so nice as a turner. Thank you for your opinion. 🙂
I love donuts, these look wonderful, grapefruit is unexpected as a flavor and I think it would be fantastic. The donuts are also really gorgeous, so uniform in size because you baked in a mold. Lovely.
They are bite size, and I always get along with bite sizes! The grapefruit gave donuts a special and fresh flavour… I have to make them again as soon as possible! Thanks a lot for your comment!
wow! Looks soooo good:)
Thank you!
This is such a neat recipe! I have never mixed yeast with flour. The texture on these doughnuts looks impeccable… I can’t wait to try your technique. As always, you have picked a winning yet unique flavor, in this case, grapefruit. Citrus is just what is needed to make the pastry taste light and fresh for summer. Your photos are amazing, as always. The lighting style is so professional!
Shanna I have to print your comments… you are so kind with me and your words are always delicate. I’m glad you like my recipe, grapefruit gave a very special taste to those donuts, I’m sure your kids would appreciate it!
The donus look just perfect Margherita! I am very intrigued by the grapefruit flavor!
Thanks a lot Naina!
Wow Marghy,
This is superb. Grapefruit donuts are unheard of and sound full of bright and warm summer. I am saving your recipe for baked donuts. Excellent!
Sonal
Thanks a lot my dear Sonal! Even though during the summer turn the oven on is not so “funny” these donuts deserve the effort!
I bet :). How are you ?
These look so delicious! Grapefruit flavored desserts are the best!!
I’ve never baked using grapefruit until now… what a mistake, you’re right, tha flavour is amazing!
I recently made a grapefruit loaf… AMAZING. These look fantastic, totally underrated fruit!
Thanks a lot!
This combo blows my mind!!! But now I simply must try the recipe 😀
Thanks a lot!!!
Your donuts look stunning! I never would have thought to use grapefruit in a donut, but it sounds delightful.
Thanks a lot Mary! Grapefruit turned out to be an excellent ingredient to use in cakes!
I just spotted these donuts and I think I’m in love! I’m making these immediately!
Oh really??? I’m glad you like my recipe… please let me know in case you’ll try this recipe! Thanks a lot!
Oh my what beautiful donuts, Margy! These look amazing and I’m sure tastes amazing with with the grapefruit, which btw, was a really creative addition. I think I have to go buy donut molds now. 🙂
These look simply fabulous Margerhita! Grapefruit must be giving it such a fresh burst of flavor! I just bought a donut pan last month and both you and Jhuls have done donut posts…so i have got to make them now! 🙂
I’m glad I’m not the only one buying fun baking molds without really knowing what I want to bake in them! Your doughnuts are adorable, Margherita! 🙂
It seems that we are a huge community of people who buy molds before knowing what they’re using for! Thanks a lot Patty for you comment!
Buongiorno Margherita!
Bacioni!
Laura e Sara
Ah volentieri! Sai quante cose vorrei chiedervi io in cambio???
Grazie mille e buon we!
ma non ci credoooo !!! : ))))))
Wow Margherita, these look absolutely gorgeous!! And I am in love with the mood you created on the photos, the dark background is beautiful!! Love it! hugs
Thanks a lot Sylvia for your lovely comment… it means a lot to me!
Buon we Giulia!
Davvero??? Allora voglio delle idee!
mele e zenzero (ricetta vecchissima nel blog)
albicocche e lavanda
prugne e cannella
…
Grazie!
Mi pare tutto meraviglioso ! grazie
Those look so wonderful. 🙂
Thanks a lot!
Grapefruit is only one of my favorite fruits and doughnuts are only one of my favorite desserts! Put them together and it is a match made in heaven….. I am done for with these. 🙂
So this is your dessert! I hope you’ll give it a chance!
Thanks a lot for this lovely comment!
sei davvero bravissima ❤
Ma grazie mille, che bel complimento!
Très gourmand
merci! : )
Yum! These look delicious!
